PetersenDean donates solar power system to senior center in Mazatlan in partnership with and the Rotary Clubs of Ukiah, CA and Rotario de Mazatlan. Project to provide low cost electricity to seniors in Mazatlan, Mexico

FREMONT, CA — PetersenDean Roofing & Solar recently announced the installation of solar electricity at Una Gota en el Oceano, a senior care home in Mazatlan, Mexico. The project was sponsored and funded by the Rotary Clubs of Ukiah, CA, Rotario de Mazatlan, and PetersenDean Roofing & Solar.

The facility is home to approximately 30 seniors who suffer from physical and mental disabilities. Many suffer from severe diabetes, a disease which afflicts one in three Mexicans, and is one of the top two causes of death in the country. With the help of PetersenDean, and funding from Rotary International, the home will benefit from free solar power that will save $2,000 to $2,500 in annual electricity cost, and afford expanded care to its patients.

The project consists of 7.5 kW of roof mounted solar panels manufactured by Canadian Solar and an inverter installed on the 2,800-square-foot building. PetersenDean’s generous contribution of solar panels, racking, and a grid-tied inverter will help offset the high cost of electricity in Mexico.

“Club Rotario of Mazatlan built the home last year, and they are having a difficult time providing the necessary level of care due to increasing operational expenses, such as the rising cost of utility generated power in Mexico, which can be up to five times higher than in the United States. With the cost savings expected from the solar electric system, greater care can be provided to the residents,” said Jim Petersen, founder of PetersenDean.

The estimated cost of the project is $17,000 (U.S. dollars).
