Project scope/size: Project comprised two main scopes of work: it began with the tear off and replacement of 117,200 square feet of built-up roofing and the installation of a Firestone .060 mil TPO roof system with a 20-year warranty. The second phase was SBS modified roof repairs on 10,990 square feet of existing roof.

Project description: Vacuumed the loose gravel off the roof replacement area to minimize dust and debris during the tear off. This allowed for the inspection of the roof deck for damage and repairs to three types of concrete: Tectum, steel and lightweight. Installed SBS Modified (white granulated) in cold process roofing in these areas.

Installed ISO insulation board over the decking types with half-inch Primed Dens Deck, and installed new Firestone .060 mil TPO (white) with all roof-related flashings. The final step was the installation of a new gutter system at the Hemisphere Park area.

Challenges: Roofing in a high occupancy environment in the middle of downtown San Antonio. Very strict safety regulations and environmental concerns for this year- long project. The schedule of dates for tear off were subject to change as a result of weather conditions, difficulty of the tear off, and working around Convention Center events.

Further, the existing roof system contained asbestos in some areas, which required asbestos abatement. Job site safety for passers-by and employees remained a priority throughout the project.
