Project Description: PetersenDean was selected as the solar roofing contractor by Far West Communities to install roofing and solar on the new homes at Murano in Palm Springs.
This new, 42 home community offers a number of green features to meet California Title 24 compliance standards. The homes range is size from 2,188 to 2,671 square feet and feature green technologies including tankless hot water heating systems, drought-tolerant drip irrigation, variable speed pool pumps and Low-E glass windows, to name a few.
Murano embodies a mid-century modern architecture with window shadow boxes and extended rooflines on the exterior. The homes’ flat roofs work well for the solar panels, which are completely hidden.
The solar roofing, contributes significantly the project sustainability features, and most importantly to the annual energy savings for each home. The 4kW solar roof systems are standard with each home. The electricity savings is projected to beabout $1,980 a year, or $165 a month. Homeowners further benefit from federal solar tax credits totaling about $2,500 due to the solar roofing. Estimated five-year solar savings can total up to $10,296 compared to homes without solar panels.
