The Senior Accountant is a key role in both the accounting and financial reporting functions of PetersenDean. This position is responsible for identifying process improvements, reviewing deliverables for year end audit, managing cross-divisional and cross-functional accounting initiatives, and performing standard monthly and quarterly close activities. Monthly responsibilities include preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, review and distribution of divisional and consolidated financial statements and reporting packages, and analysis of financial statement variances and trends. This position interacts regularly with senior management of the organization and is viewed as a pipeline for leadership positions within the finance and accounting organization.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and review of divisional and consolidated financial statements
  • Serve as a key contact for all external auditors
  • Work with the Finance Lead Team to identify and address potential gaps in the Company’s internal controls over financial reporting
  • Assist in the formation of internal accounting and operational policies
  • Assist in the preparation of various internal reporting packages, which are distributed across all levels of the organization
  • Researches significant variances and trends for the Company’s corporate/shared service departments and presents findings to senior management
  • Assist in the research and documentation of significant, complex, and/or unusual transactions to ensure proper application of GAAP
  • Prepares certain month end accruals and account reconciliations relating to any and all inter-companies.
  • Review and approve journal entries to ensure proper application and in accordance to GAAP and company policy
  • Maintenance and preparation of daily cash flow reports
  • Gather and organize financial data from all accounting departments
  • Compile and analyze financial reports and find discrepancies that require senior management attention
  • Manage the general ledger and devote time to risk management especially with regard to Accounts Receivable.
  • Prepare Accounts Receivable weekly forecast and summary report
  • Prepare financial reports with reliable conclusions that management can use to implement more effective operational strategies
  • Forecast models for review changes and expenditure increases/decreases
  • Provide EOM reports for executive team
  • Assist in the preparation of Financial Statements
  • Reconciling Balance Sheet accounts
  • Month-end closing & journal entries
  • Other general office duties may be assigned as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BS degree in finance or accounting required
  • 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Construction industry and/or job costing experience a plus
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is a must
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills are required
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • CPA – CMA a plus
