On February 27th, 2019, PetersenDean ended the month with a giant act of love; PetersenDean handed over their “big” donation check to the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. This $16,500 check is the result of PetersenDean’s October promotion to donate $25 to HERS for every solar system purchased during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. When asked about what it was like to accept the “big” check HERS Executive Director Tina Fernandez Steckler said, “It was an honor to be chosen [as a recipient]… Mr. Petersen’s generosity and efforts were tremendous and helped us exceed our fundraising goal”. Thanks to PetersenDean and many other individuals HERS had a tremendous Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2018! In October, HERS nearly doubled their funding goal to support their three charitable programs!
PetersenDean is proud to partner with HERS by both sponsoring and attending events. Additionally, PetersenDean’s Director of Customer Experience, Jill Tamaru, contributes her time and expertise to the organization as a HERS Board Member. In September 2018, PetersenDean employees ran alongside survivors, friends, and family members in the HERS Annual 5k/10k Walk/ Run and Community Expo. PetersenDean hopes to continue to use its reach to inform more people about the incredible work at the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. HERS is different from other organizations because it offers three unique Assistance Programs for underserved Breast Cancer survivors. At their three Bay Area locations (Fremont/Pleasanton/San Leandro) HERS specializes in the life-changing fitting of specialty undergarments, headwear and wigs, and lymphedema compression garments for Breast Cancer survivors. Insurance does not cover many of these vital items, and HERS strives to provide them to women at little to no cost and with kindness and compassion. The 5K/10K Walk/Run serves as a kickoff event for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is one of the two major fundraising events for HERS.
PetersenDean is gearing up to support HERS Breast Cancer Foundation’s next big event. On May 4th, 2019, HERS will hold its 10th Annual People with Purpose Pink Tie Gala at the Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton. In addition to raising funds for the HERS charitable programs, the event will honor four individuals who have made outstanding efforts to support Breast Cancer patients. The recipients of the HERS awards this year are:
Hope Award – Evelyn Paradis, Pacific West Gymnastics/Barb’s Pink Party
Empowerment Award – Funda Dervisoglu, Annual Walk/Run fundraiser
Renewal Award – Ming Kuan, M.D., Kaiser Permanente Hematology/Oncology Specialist
The Harriet Despeaux Award (formerly Support Award) – Stephanie Sullivan, Giving Hope Coordinator for Premier Nissan of Fremont and Premier Subaru of Fremont
Tina highlighted that these individuals have, “Done extraordinary things to support Breast Cancer survivors.” The Gala is an elegant evening affair, and an incredible opportunity to both have fun and give back to an incredible cause. The night includes both silent and live auctions, live music, a three-course dinner with wine, and plenty of fundraising games. As proud “Renewal Sponsors,” PetersenDean will be auctioning off an exclusive San Jose Earthquakes Package with suite tickets to a game! Other auction items include: a “Day with a Detective” donated by the City of Fremont’s Police Department; dinner, tickets, and a backstage tour of the Oakland Ballet; a private tour of the KTVU Fox 2 Television Station led by Gala emcee and KTVU Fox 2 Anchor Heather Holmes; and much more! The People with Purpose Pink Tie Gala truly is an incredible experience and an unforgettable evening of fun and celebration.
Tina would like to extend a special thanks to Kirstin Litz for all of her incredible work as co-chair of the Gala for, “whom without her there would be no Gala.” HERS is also incredibly grateful to their Legacy Sponsor, Fremont Bank, which has, in Tina’s words, “Supported HERS since the beginning,” donating over $350,000 since HERS began in 1998. Lastly, Tina also expressed additional thanks to HERS staff members and the Gala Committee for their hard work.
