Project description/Challenges:
The Florida Marlins’ new ballpark is being built less than 2 miles west of Downtown Miami in the Little Havana neighborhood, on the site of the former Miami Orange Bowl. Upon completion, the new ballpark will become home to the Florida Marlins.

Construction began on July 1, 2009. The Marlins moved into their new home in April “Opening Day” 2012. The stadium will be the sixth Major League Baseball stadium to have a retractable roof. With a planned seating capacity of 37,000, it will be the third-smallest stadium in Major League Baseball by official capacity, and the smallest by actual capacity.

The retractable roof is expected to open in approximately 14 minutes and will consist of 8,300 tons of steel, which is the exact weight of the Eiffel Tower. The temperature in the new ballpark will average a comfortable 75 °F (24 °C) with the roof closed. The new ballpark could also be the first retractable roof ballpark to be Silver Certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The roofing consists the Retractable Operational Roof, Sloped Fixed Roofs, Flat Fixed Roofs on Steel Deck and Flat Fixed Roofs on Concrete Deck. 510,000 square feet of Carlisle 60 mil Sure-Weld High Slope Reinforced TPO Membrane on Sloped roofs greater than 4/12 adhered with Fast 100 Adhesive. 99,600 square feet of Carlisle 115 mil Sure-Weld Fleeceback TPO Membrane on Flat areas only adhered with Fast 100 Adhesive.

The contract requirements for this project included Community Small Business Enterprise (CSBE), Small Business Enterprise (SBE) as well as local participation for the Community Workforce Program requiring employing laborers from Designated Target Areas, totaling 27% Minority Participation.

The ten building project, new construction consisting of R-19 lightweight concrete and fully adhered Sika Sarnafil Single Ply Roof Systems.
